Croydon Cemetery
Croyden Cemetery is perhaps most famous for the finally successful fight of his family to have "A Victim of British Justice" inscribed on the gravestone of Derek Bentley, wrongly hanged in 1953.
Aside from this, two extentions to the original ground have left this rather odd-shaped cemetery as an attractive memorial to its ongoing place in the community: a sweeping tree-lined drive leads to a modern chapel and crematorium block with paved landscaping, which gradually gives way to the Victorian original, with its own chapel and a number of rather nice angels. Altogether this is a pleasant and well-run suburban ground which some other councils might do well to emulate.
